Golf Digest released its updated rankings of the best 100 courses in the United States in May 2021. It also compiled lists of the top courses in each state. Below are its top-three courses in Wisconsin.
1. Whistling Straits - Developed by Pete Dye and opened in 1998, Whistling Straits is situated along Lake Michigan and is known for its rugged fairways and abundance of bunkers. The 7,790-yard, par-72 course was ranked No. 23 on Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Courses in America list.
2. Erin Hills Golf Course - Ranked No. 46 on the aforementioned list, Erin Hills Golf Course is a 7,731-yard, par-72 course that opened in 2006. Since then, it has hosted notable tournaments including the 2011 U.S. Amateur and 2017 U.S. Open.
3. Milwaukee Country Club - This hilly 7,097-yard, par-72 course along the Milwaukee River is lined with trees, but still presents scenic views of the river at select holes. It opened in 1929 and has been on Golf Digest's 100 Greatest Courses in America list since 1989.
