Baseball and Life by Aaron Heiden

Aaron Heiden works in the investment client services division of Northwestern Mutual, a financial services company. He has a BS in business administration from the University of Wisconsin. Aaron Heiden has written an article about life lessons that can be gleaned from baseball.

The first lesson is teamwork. Baseball shows the advantages of leveraging the capabilities of the group rather than the individual. Not only is teamwork effective when facing challenges, but having others with you to share the triumphs of life can be an immensely pleasurable experience.

Baseball points to the necessity of having a strong work ethic. Aaron Heiden refers to it as a “steely work ethic.” He breaks it down into being determined, having the courage to do a task, and having a mindset of always wanting to do the job better.

Baseball, like life, is full of pressure. Exposure to this environment teaches emotional control, improves reactions, and can provide new insights. The stressful environment also teaches a person how to deal with and overcome stress. Moving on to the next challenge, it becomes easier to handle because of lessons previously learned.

Membership Benefits of the NSLS

Based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Aaron Heiden is involved in investment client services at Northwestern Mutual. Aaron Heiden belongs to the National Society of Leadership and Success.

The nonprofit National Society of Leadership and Success (NSLS) believes that learning is a life-long journey, everyone has leadership potential, and people achieve more together than on their own. Prior to founding the society, Gary Tuerack traveled the country to give speeches on leadership to college students. He then teamed up with colleges and other educational organizations to develop a program that gave students ongoing support and leadership training that was cost-effective for institutions and actionable for students.

Now NSLS supports approximately 1.2 million student members who enjoy numerous benefits, such as working with peers through a Success Networking Team and working with professional success coaches to improve skills and identify and pursue a route to success. Members also have access to a professionally administered communication assessment tool to learn more about their own styles and how to interact with people with other styles. Members also receive a leadership training certificate upon completion of the program.
